Astral projection, on the surface, is a simple concept:
Keep your mind awake while your body falls asleep.
But let’s be real — that line alone can feel a little misleading.
Because for many of us, the truth is: you’re probably going to lose consciousness for a moment at first.
First things first — drop the idea that you’ll be flying around the astral in 30 seconds. There are masters who’ve practiced this for decades and still don’t project instantly. Sure, it’s possible, but let’s remember: YouTube thrives on clickbait. Don’t let flashy video titles set unrealistic expectations.
So, how do you actually do it?
1. Keep the mind active, body relaxed.
That’s the formula. But how? Here are some solid methods:
• The Target Method
Find 3 meaningful objects around your house — things with emotional or sensory value.
Begin by visualizing your door in full detail. Feel the texture. Feel the doorhandle. Hear the sound it makes. Then mentally walk to each of the 3 objects, pausing to deeply examine them in your mind. Visualize walking to each one. This anchors your awareness while your body drifts into sleep.
2. Find the exercise that resonates.
Head to the Astral Projection Techniques group on Facebook. Tons of free info, and even a PDF floating around with “60 Astral Projection Techniques.”
When I took William Buhlman’s course, he had several practices. I could immediately tell some weren’t for me. There was one about becoming an eagle and soaring through the sky. Sounds cool, but I had zero reference point for what that would feel like. Frustrating. I went back to what clicked — the Target Method.

Record your own script: Use HD Audio Recorder. You can read a PDF or create your own meditation with ChatGPT and layer it over the beats.
Yes, you’ll probably hate the sound of your voice.
But, your subconscious will respond more powerfully to the sound of your voice.
Your Belief System Is Everything
This might be the most important piece.
If you’re stuck, it’s probably not your method — it’s your beliefs.
I started with this declaration:
I am a powerful spiritual being.
Did I know that was true? Nope.
Did I fully believe it? Also nope.
But I was willing to adopt it anyway. I was willing to dismiss the fear narratives — “it’s dangerous,” “you could get possessed,” “you’ll never come back” — and plant my flag on the belief that I am Powerful Spiritual Being.
I claimed my right to explore.
Reflect on this:
Here are five belief-shifting questions to ask yourself:
What do I really believe about astral projection?
Do I fear the unknown, and where did that come from?
Do I believe I need to be “special” or “chosen” to do this?
Do I trust myself to stay conscious in altered states?
Am I willing to let go of control and just observe?
Parting Thoughts
My first astral projection — it wasn’t a dream. The sensation was radically different.
Six months in, I hung a sign in my living room:
“Now, conscious O.B.E.s are easy for me!”
I didn’t fully believe it, but repetition rewires you. The year before of Joe Dispenza’s online course drove home how much belief affects experience.Stop trying so hard. If you’re pushing, you’re reinforcing the belief that it’s difficult. That belief becomes a program.
Instead, explore lucid dreaming, yoga nidra. Breathe work. Build confidence.Address the myths.
“It’s dangerous.” → You are a fucking spark of creation! Own It!
“There are boogeymen out there.” → Step into your power.
It’s not always smooth sailing.
You don’t always exit your body with full lucidity. Consciousness is a spectrum — just like being tired, drunk, or distracted affects your clarity here. You will find your not always at your best game out there.
Stand in Your Power
This path isn’t about perfection or instant mastery.
It’s about reclaiming your curiosity, your confidence, and your right to explore what most people never dare to touch.
So stop waiting.
Stop fearing.
Stop asking for permission.
Stand in your power.
